Interesting Homes for Sale in New York City

A guide to finding the New York listings that stand apart — not just by price, but by architecture, history, outdoor space and the way they live.

What makes a New York home interesting?

Price alone does not make a home memorable. In New York, the listings that tend to stand out usually have a clear point of view: a former industrial loft with original columns, a townhouse with an unusual garden, a penthouse with meaningful outdoor space, or a new residence that does something different with light, materials or layout.

Start with the building, not the bedroom count

A useful way to search is to begin with building type. Cast-iron SoHo lofts, Tribeca warehouse conversions, West Village townhouses and carefully designed new developments each produce very different homes. Looking at the building’s original use and architectural period often tells you more than a standard list of amenities.

Outdoor space changes the equation

Private terraces and rooftops are especially valuable as editorial features because they can change how a Manhattan home feels. A modest interior with a remarkable terrace may be more compelling than a larger apartment with no outdoor connection at all.

Where Another Stay In looks

We currently focus on New York City, with particular attention to downtown Manhattan. Our selection is editorial rather than exhaustive: we would rather show a small number of homes with a story than reproduce every active listing.

Another Stay In is an independent editorial platform. Availability, pricing and listing details can change; verify current information with the listing representative.
